Smoke House Deli is an European restaurant that’s known for it’s all white interiors and some lip-smacking all-day breakfast. The need for constantly improving their game made them come up with a new menu that boasts of an addition of thirty five new dishes!
I was invited for a Chef’s table sometime during the last week of January, to celebrate the brand new menu ๐ I got a chance to try out eighteen of those thirty five dishes, in one sitting. Let’s see what those dishes are ๐
While we waited for everyone to arrive, we sipped on some fine cocktails. My favorite was the Smoked Rob Roy.
They also introduced to us, some in house brewed liquors. Some of which made it to a cocktail that we all tried!
Appetizers
Crunchy Mozzarella Fritters
Crunchy Mozzarella Fritters was a cheese filled fritter that’s super crispy on top and gooey in the center. What helped elevate the dish to a whole new level was the spicy cheese powder sprinkled on top!
Panko Crusted Kashmiri Chilli
As much as I love regular bread dough, I can’t quite eat that without a guilty feeling on my mind. So, when I see corn flatbread, I say yay! Bring it on!!. This was a pizza-ish dish with cottage cheese topping and yet again, something that gave this dish a super star status was a kashmiri chilli. The chilli was panko crusted and was easy to take down! I loved this one ๐
Prawn Fritters
The prawns in spiced mayo dip was a ‘cute’ looking dish that packed a punch! I believe the dish was a little incomplete as after a couple of bites, you’d get bored as there were no accompaniments.
Smoked Black Pepper Chicken
Behold the showstopper of the afternoon’s appetizer parade! The smoked flavor of the pepper chicken on skewers made it a popular choice and rightly so, had the most number of repeat orders!
Soup
Arguably the most controversial ingredient known to mankind is truffle oil. I do not understand why it’s used by chefs and I absolutely couldn’t have more than a couple of sips of the soup which had this. I love sweet corn soup, but truffle oil is just not for me ๐ Try it for yourself to understand what I’m talking about.
Pastas & Risottos
The new additions to the Risotto fare are Pepper Crusted Chicken in rosemary, Slow roasted Cauliflower in mascarpone and Potato Gnocci in 3 cheese sauce.
To say that the Potato Gnocci dish was excellent is a understatement!
Mains
Roasted Vegetables in Red Cheddar Melt
This dish is an absolute treat for vegetarians. That amazing red cheddar melt on veggies is a heaven on earth!
3 Way Polenta Cake
Of all the dishes I had that sunny & beautiful afternoon, Polenta cake, done 3 ways in bean & chickpea stew was one to remember. The wonderful texture of the polenta(boiled cornmeal) went very well with the savory stew of bean & chickpea.
Pan Grilled Fresh Bhetki
This dish was definitely the most popular dish in the main course section! The delicately cooked fish in jalapeno corn sauce was fresh and perfectly flavored. They plated it beautifully and couldn’t have looked more enticing ๐
Half Roast Rosemary Chicken with Wild Mushroom AOP
This dish is that’s made for kings! There’s half roast chicken in rosemary jus, wild mushrooms in Aglio, Olio e Peperoncino spice and if that wasn’t enough for a dish, they thrown in a poached egg!
Desserts
This is the section where Smoke House Deli really shines! There were 4 desserts that I tried and each one of them was unlike anything I’ve ever had!
Prune Crumble Tart with Dark Chocolate Mousse
The sweet and raisin like texture of the prunes were delightful. It went very well with the dark chocolate mousse. I’m not a big fan of dark chocolate. So, the calorie counting self, skipped this after a tiny spoonful of this ๐
Lemon Tart with Orange Mascarpone Cheese
I’m a sucker for lemon tarts. Despite this context, this was the third best dessert on that eventful afternoon! This presentation of this was spectacular. Not everyday do you see a lemon tart, that isn’t a full circle!
Milk Cake with Toasted Hazelnuts
One of the bloggers had to leave early and our elaborate lunch didn’t help her cause. We had probably just about started with the main course. But no one leaves midway without having a dessert. I repeat, no one! So, she asked for the best of the 4 desserts that we were to try later. This was the ‘chosen one’. I beg to differ, but more on that later ๐ Oh, And I forgot to click this one, sorry ๐
This was an excellent dessert, with moist cake topped with hazelnuts. If it weren’t for even more delectable desserts, I(and everyone else there) would have crowned this one the queen of desserts! But what really blew my socks off? The next dessert; White Chocolate in Lemon Molten Cake!
White Chocolate Lemon Molten Cake
All sweet and no sharpness of lemons makes a dessert boring. So, why not incorporate lemons into white chocolate? Sounds like a brilliant idea. Remember, this isn’t your lemon tart. This dish is what dreams are made of. I could have a really really bad day, and if there was one thing that could fix me up, it ain’t s*x or Lindt Lindor, but this dessert! Break apart the cake and have molten white chocolate ooze out. The zingy taste of the lemons and sweetness of white chocolate was beyond just perfect! I couldn’t help myself from asking one whole serving of this one, and like a little baby, I refused to get out of here without it. If that meant, waiting for yet another 25 minutes, so be it!
You can head to any of the Smoke House Deli outlets and experience all of these new dishes along with the old favorites! And when you do so, please let me know what your favorites are ๐
