Asian Street Food Fest @ DoubleTree Suites by Hilton

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton is one of the most sought after hotels for business travelers due to the close proximity to the various tech parks on the Outer Ring Road (ORR Bangalore). With studios & suites to choose from, each room is equipped with some amazing amenities like a private balcony with a sit-out, kitchenette and considerable amount of storage for a long stay. With dining being the key differentiator in picking a hotel, DoubleTree Suites is leaving no stone unturned! They have 2 options; Asia Alive and Equinox. Asia alive is a multi-cuisine restaurant and Equinox is a lounge bar.

Infinity Pool

It was my first visit to the property, so I was given a little tour and what impressed me was their rooftop pool overlooking the skyscrapers on this side of the town!

I was invited for a preview of their Asian Street Food Festival in Equinox. This event starts for the general public on 16-Apr-2018 and goes on until 30-Apr-2018. Some of the most delightful street food & drinks from streets of South East Asia was beckoning and we got right to it!

Mango Margarita Shot

We started with a Mango Margarita shot which packed a punch because it had a surprise addition of chili peppers. Just the right note to start with!!

Appetizers

Non Vegetarian appetizers

We started with a Udang Sambal which is a Prawn in samba sauce, which is made of various chili peppers, shrimp paste, fish sauce, vinegar among other condiments. It is also one of the most popular sauces used in South East Asian food. This dish was easily the best appetizer on the day and everyone at the table loved it!

Satay Ayam

You can’t have a Asian food festival without some chicken skewers and I was happy to see that part of this menu. Satay Ayam is a chicken skewer dipped in a peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was a little underwhelming and could have had a lot more character. But, that’s just my take on it.

Chicken Bao

There are 4 Baos to choose from; chicken, lamb, pork & tofu.

Tofu Bao

My personal favorite was tofu because it was a very well balanced stuffing, with a lot of elements that went very well with each other.

Lamb Bao

The lamb one was everyone’s favorite and I felt it was quite tasty too.

Vegetarian Momo
Non Vegetarian Momo

Momos have taken Bangalore by a storm, where you’d see one hawker on every street, selling momos! We had Vegetarian and Chicken Momos here.

Vegetarian appetizers

We then had platters come by with 2-3 dishes on each. The 3 vegetarian appetizers were Begedil, a deep fried potato patty served with Malaysian sauce, Karipap, a beautifully made curry puffs with a potato filling and lastly Bakwanjagung, a corn fritter served with tomato chili sauce. All 3 dishes were good but the Karipap hit a home run!

Nemcuan

I have always been fascinated with rice paper rolls, because it’s the most delicate dish I’ve ever seen! If you are a fan of it, you must definitely try this 🙂

Chicken Wings (Peek Gai Tod Gluea)

I just love chicken wings and the one being served here are tossed in sweet chili sauce, was crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside. Let’s just say that I munched on quite a few of these 🙂

Yam Percik

Yet another spectacular dish that made it’s way to our table was yam Percik, a Malaysian grilled chicken served with a tamarind sambal sauce.

Main Course

Main Course

They’re serving up what they’re calling Super Bowls, which has a bowl of rice/noodles and curry. My favorite from the bowls was the Kanom Jeen Namya. This is supposed to be rice noodles dish served usually with fish as the choice of protein. The fish curry was just spectacular!

Main Course

And as I said earlier, the chefs here really know how to prepare prawns and it was no different in mains. Tom Who Danh, a Vietnamese prawn wok-tossed in shrimp paste, went very well with some sticky rice. There’s also Lamb Rendang, which is a Malaysian lamb curry. I also liked the option of having the curries with Char Kwai Teow , which is stir fried flat noodles.

Dessert

Khao Neeo Ma Muang

Since its Summer time in Bangalore, it’s always a good idea to have something made of mangoes! They made us Khao Neeo Ma Muang, which is Thai Sweet Sticky rice with Mango. I am pretty sure I completed this dessert served in a wine glass in no more than 150 seconds! It was that good!

So, I’d highly encourage you try this Asian Street Food festival and head there before the 30th of April 🙂
